Applicable scope |
1. Overseas Chinese who used to be permanent residents of Shanghai before canceling their household registration and moving abroad; 2. Overseas Chinese who were born abroad and whose spouse or parent is a permanent resident of Shanghai. |

Approval criteria |
1. The applicant needs to live in China for at least 2 consecutive months from his or her latest entry date to the date before the application, or for at least 4 months in total within the year before the application; 2. The applicant needs to have stable life support and a legal place of residence in Shanghai, including (1) the applicant has a house in Shanghai; (2) the applicant's spouse, parent, child, grandparent, grandchild, or sibling has a house in Shanghai or is a permanent resident of Shanghai, and the owner of the applicant's planned place of residence needs to give consent to the household registration inclusion of the applicant (the applicant can have multiple choices of residence, the application shall apply to his or her actual place of residence); 3. The application meets the household registration requirements of Shanghai upon the review by the household registration department under the police station whose jurisdiction covers the applicant's planned place of residence. |

Instructions for Filling
1. The application materials shall be sequenced in the order as set out in the List of Application Materials in this Guide;
2. The documents prepared by the applicant are printed with A4 papers, and those issued by the government and other authorities shall be provided in the size(s) as the original(s);
3. Copies of the application materials shall be clear and legible.
Formal Standards
Except for formatted documents, all hardcopy materials need to be printed or copied with A4 papers.
